The Different Kinds of Simple Machines

Machines make the difficult things done easier. These things are used in different fields of activity to be able to make thing easily done. There are many different machines and all of these have their different functions.

Aside from complicated machines, there are different simple machines in which some complicated machines are consists with.

Simple machines can multiply force; they can change the direction of force and they can reduce the amount of time to accomplish a task.

The simple machines are the lever, the pulley, the wheel and axle, the wedge, the screw and the inclined plane.

The crowbar is an example of a lever; it turns on a fixed point that is called as the fulcrum. An effort is called upon the force that is applied to the lever, while the weight that needs to be moved is called as the resistance or load.

There are about three classes of lever namely the first-class lever, the second-hand lever and the third-class lever.

The first class lever is the kind of lever in which the fulcrum is placed anywhere between the effort and the load. It multiplies the effort and moves the load going to the opposite direction of the effort.

The second-hand lever is the kind of lever in which the load is in between the effort and fulcrum.

The third-class lever is the kind of lever in which the effort is in between the load and the fulcrum. In the third-class lever, the effort is greater than the load. The purpose of the third class lever is to increase the distance that is moved and not to reduce the force.

The Wheel and the Axle is a kind of simple machines that can multiply force and speed. An example of wheel and axle is the screw driver.

The Pulley is a simple machine, a kind of wheel with a groove rim over which a rope passes unto it. This machine helps us to raise objects and it comes in different types namely; the fixed pulley, the movable pulley and the block and tackle.

The fixed pulley is a kind of pulley that does not move and is fastened to a single spot. This pulley is used particularly on flagpoles, venetian blinds, clotheslines and other else. The movable pulley is the type that moves along the rope. This pulley does not change the direction of the force; however this pulley reduces the amount of force that is applied.

The Block and Tile is a combination of several pulleys. It can further reduce the effort exerted in lifting a weight.

The Inclined Plane is a kind of simple machine that decreases the effort of lifting the object straight up; this machine is a force multiplier.

The Wedge is a kind of simple machine. It is also called as double inclined plane; however, instead of pushing the load up the inclined like in the inclined plane, you will be going to push the load under or through the load.

The Screw is a kind of simple machine that is used to lift objects. It is also considered as a spiral inclined plane.
